The pastor of MCC of the Spirit will
perform same gender OR opposite gender marriages or commitment
ceremonies. Through the stories of Adam and Eve, David and
Jonathan, and Ruth and Naomi, we know that God calls us into
relationship with one another. Two people who seek to make
that love a life-long, committed, partnership and form a life
together may contact the church about having a commitment
ceremony (sometimes known as a Holy Union) or a marriage
performed.
There are certain requirements:
- The relationship must be at least 1
year in length.
- If you have been married or joined in
a civil union or Holy Union prior to this relationship, you
must have a divorce or dissolution of the prior
relationship.
- You must complete 3 premarital
sessions with the person performing the ceremony. These
must be at least 2 weeks apart.
- There is a cost of $175 if you can
meet for these sessions during the daytime or $200 if you
need evening hours. This fee pays only for the clergy to
perform the ceremony. There are additional costs for rental
of the sanctuary and/or fellowship hall, using live music,
etc. There is an additional cost for travel if the ceremony
is held more than 25 miles from the church.
It is recommended that you call at least
6 months ahead of your planned ceremony in order to reserve
space on the pastor’s calendar and the use of the building, if
